New DTS film sound system facilities for people with visual and hearing impairments:
Audio Description (A/D) is a service for partially sighted or blind people. While the film's main soundtrack plays through the cinema speakers in the usual manner, users listen to a specially recorded narrator detailing what's happening on the screen at selected breaks during the film's dialogue, through a set of headphones. The headphones are personal and the user is still able to hear the film's sound through the cinema surround sound speakers. We can offer this facility on all films marked DTS A/D, but please tell us of your requirements when booking, as we have a limited number of headphones.
Descriptive Subtitling (S/T) of English language films will be of interest to patrons with hearing
impairments and anyone who wants to be sure not to miss any part of the on-screen dialogue. However,
Descriptive Subtitling provides much
more information than “normal” English subtitles (eg. on foreign language films). For example, they
describe: when something is sung, rather than spoken; when significant music is happening
(often with lyrics provided); and significant sound effects (such as a phone ringing).
We are offering this facility for selected screenings, which will be marked S/T.
There will always be an option to see the same film without subtitles at other screenings.
NEW TECHNOLOGY, NEW CHALLENGES: The above access facilities are only available for films with a DTS Access disc. If you rely on these options for the enjoyment of a film, please check in advance with the Box Office on 01458 442846 to be sure that your chosen film has come to us in the right format.

Website
Welcome to the Strode Theatre website. It was designed for us by Tony Harmer of Studio H Media and is now maintained on a regular basis by my colleague Kate Midgley. If you have any suggestions with regard to our website, or anywhere else in our marketing and publicity materials, please feel free to contact Kate on
There is currently no facility for booking tickets directly through this website, but we are regularly investigating possibilities.
E-mailing List
As well as the printed brochure and this website, we can offer an additional service by e-mail. Kate issues regular updates on the programme and other Theatre news throughout the season and, as this includes information on likely sell-outs, I do recommend it to you. We promise not to load your inbox with spam and - as with all personal information we hold - will not pass any details to third parties.
To join the E-MAILING LIST, simply send a blank e-mail with "Emailing List" in the subject line to

The Friends of Strode Theatre

Run as a separate registered charity, The Friends of Strode Theatre are an enthusiastic core of supporters who love the Theatre, are keen to help keep its vitality and diversity alive and enjoy meeting others who feel the same way.
The Friends of Strode Theatre was launched in March 2006, and now has a membership of just under 300, who
enjoy one week of priority booking, as well as a number of special events throughout the year.
To join the "Friends", we invite donations from just £15 per year for one, or £25 per year for
two people at the same address.
Adopt A Seat

You can also contribute towards the ongoing success of
Strode Theatre by adopting one of the new seats which were installed in August 2007.
Since the launch of this fundraising initiative at the end of last year, we have had a fantastic response with over 140 seats already
adopted. The new seating layout has 343 seats and so we continue to welcome enquiries.
For a donation of £125 for one seat or £200 for two seats, you will have your name - or that of someone close
to you, or an organisation - on a plaque fixed to the seat for its lifetime at Strode Theatre.
To receive a copy of the Friends leaflet, and for further details on the "Adopt A Seat" scheme, please call the box office on 01458 442846
There is now a new Friends website www.friendsofstrodetheatre.co.uk through which you can also donate online. To adopt a seat, please also contact the Theatre direct, so you can choose which seat you would like to adopt, and tell us the wording of your plaque.
